Ivanoshka
Ivanoshka said
That she would drink tea
All night without consequence.
To weather the storm
Her longing did stir.
She would stay up all night, anyway
Tracing her fingers
Painstakingly
Over the place where she once lay.
So tonight, she keeps vigil
Lighting the wick of her oil lamp
Placing the kettle
On the wood-burning stove.
Ashes, scattered like remnants of old photographs
Upon the kitchen floor.
She took to her writing desk
Infusion in hand
Decadent,
Milk and honey Russian Caravan.
Sipping her tea, spilling her words
Offering her nakedness in brave defiance of her
Fragile,
Unfolding like a sheet of paper
Unleashing what lay hidden within its creases.
Ivanoshka said
That she would drink tea
All night without consequence.
And as dawn cast its light
Upon her writing table
The first words she did write,
were: for Virginia.
