a familiar scent

sometimes a familiar scent
brings you back
a lifetime
if not more.

nostalgia's essence
lingers upon the breeze like
smoke from an incense stick.

it wafts in gentle waves
moving slowly
moving rhythmic
spiraling like morning glories
that unfurl at dawn.

its gentle aroma envelopes you
like a sari
of the finest silk
 
and there you are
suspended
in this moment.
the ambiguity of time
declares its clever presence.

and all that once was
brings itself here
carried forth by a familiar scent
imposed upon the hands of time
bringing you back
a moment
if not a lifetime.
